Job Description

Assistant Project Manager (Commercial General Contractor)

Location: Nashville, TN

Full-time, Onsite

Learn from the best. Build your own path.

Our Assistant Project Managers are hands-on members of the project team. They run their own smaller projects or key parts of larger ones, and they learn directly from experienced PMs and Superintendents. If you're organized, detail-driven and ready to grow your construction career, we'd like to talk with you.

Who Are We? Crain Construction is a trusted, well-established commercial general contractor based in Nashville. In more than 90 years of business, we've built thousands of structures throughout Middle Tennessee and the Southeast. We can build almost anything, but we specialize in commercial projects, including ground-up construction, renovations, multi-story hospitality, retail, industrial, healthcare, education and multi-use structures.

At Crain, we value teamwork, flexibility and transparency. Our mission is to build relationships and structures that last a lifetime!

  • Deliver smaller projects or portions of larger ones under the guidance of the Project Manager
  • Serve as a point of contact with architects and engineers to resolve field coordination items through RFIs

Manage Changes and Financials

  • Help prepare bid packages and communicate scope, pricing and alternates to bidders during buyout
  • Write and issue subcontractor and owner change orders and change proposals
  • Help maintain the job cost report and budget, prepare monthly projections, and review, code and approve invoices and pay applications

Keep the Schedule and Submittals Moving

  • Help manage and update the project schedule as changes come up
  • Review submittals and shop drawings for accuracy
  • Coordinate subcontractors and vendors, including the owner's direct vendors, and manage assigned subcontractor relationships

Own the Documentation

  • Maintain project logs and document control, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, drawings, deliveries, permits, inspections and photos
  • Distribute updated drawings, approved submittals, RFI responses and other project information to the team
  • Help compile closeout and warranty documents

Protect Safety, Quality and Compliance

  • Work with the Superintendent on site logistics, including safety, deliveries, security and public protection
  • Support quality control by cross-checking subcontractor work in the field and taking field measurements as needed
  • Coordinate permit and inspection documentation, keep permits in good standing, and report safety concerns

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 2 years of related experience, or 5 years of related experience
  • The ability to read and understand contract documents, drawings and specifications
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • A positive attitude and a professional, courteous approach with your team, subcontractors and customers

What We Offer

  • A comprehensive benefits package, including a 401(k)
  • Project bonus potential
  • A family-oriented work culture where teamwork comes first
  • Room to grow into a Project Manager role
